OurTab vs chore apps
A fair split isn't an even split.
They're good at the thing they do
Dedicated chore apps have real ideas in them. Sweepy scores tasks by difficulty and puts the household on a leaderboard. Tody tracks how long it's been since each job was last done, so "what needs cleaning" stops being an argument and becomes a fact. OurHome turns it into points and rewards for kids. If your only problem is that nobody knows whose turn it is to clean the bathroom, one of these will fix it.
Even is not the same as fair
Every one of them balances the same way: by counting tasks. Split the jobs evenly, or by points, and the household is square.
That's only true if your weeks look the same. If one of you works rotating shifts, an even split is a lopsided one — the four jobs that landed on your Tuesday are four jobs on a day you left at six in the morning and got back at eight at night.
OurTab shares chores out from both people's actual working patterns. It scores each day by how much is already on it, skips days when someone's on a late, spaces jobs apart across the week, and lets a paired chore slide to the partner's lighter day — so the person who cooked isn't also washing up at midnight. Same list of jobs, distributed against real life.
You tell it your pattern once — tap the days you work, say which day the cycle starts, and it repeats from there. Four on four off, a rolling rota, whatever shape yours is. Any single day can be changed by tapping it, and if you'd rather not think in patterns you can photograph the rota sheet instead.
What else comes with it
- The unclaimed job knows who's free. Tasks nobody has picked up suggest an owner based on who's actually home that day.
- Chores sit next to the rest of it. The shopping, the meal plan and the money are in the same app, so "we need to do a shop" and "the bins go out tonight" aren't in two different places.
- Check the second seat. Sweepy's sharing is a paid feature, so the free version is one person — which is awkward when the second person is the entire point, and it's the complaint that comes up most often in its reviews. OurTab's household is free and unlimited; we charge for the AI, never for your partner.
Where a chore app is the better pick
If you want room-by-room cleanliness tracking, or points, badges and a leaderboard to make it fun, take Sweepy or Tody — OurTab has none of that and isn't trying to gamify housework. And if you've got children doing chores for pocket money, OurHome is built for exactly that and OurTab isn't.
